Expanding Your Bathroom 2

Previously we have looked at how to expand your bathroom and make it look bigger than it is with vanities and accessories. Now we’re going to look at other ways to do this using mirrors, colours and showers.
Use mirrors to reflect the space and light within the room. One of the best ways is to have a large mirror in front of the bathroom sink. This will not only expand the room but also project your colours and patterns.
Just like the walls, do the floor in a light colour as well to open it up. If you’re not changing the floor then a large light coloured rug will have the same effect.
Shower
When it comes to the shower, the best solution is to take away the door altogether and use a shower curtain instead. This way, the curtain can be taken back to one side and your eye will be able to see all the way back to the wall.
If you can’t eliminate your door then changing a frosted glass one for a clear glass one has the same effect.
Extras
Smaller ideas are to keep all clutter out of sight, store what you can away.
Instead of having lots of accessories use just one decorative one.
Same goes for pictures or art, have just one as opposed to lots of smaller ones.

Outdoor Bathrooms

With summer just around the corner, everyone wants to make the most of the good weather and spend as much time in the sun
An outdoor bathroom gives you your very own spa in the comfort of your own home and a completely different setting to relax in. The ideas as to what you can do are endless but there are a number of factors which you have to consider when moving outdoors.
One major thing to think about is the kind of furniture you will use to suit the climate you are in. Unlike indoors, these bathrooms are more sensitive and have to be suitable for the type of environment they are in. Being outdoors, your furniture is susceptible to rain and winter so choosing materials that won’t corrode is important.
Another key element is privacy. You want to feel relaxed and at home and not be paranoid about peeking neighbours! Make the most of natural light so you’re not attracting attention to yourself with electric ones. The choice and position of your furniture will play a part in these.
To make your bathroom feel part of the outdoors, furnish it with earthy colours such as blue, green and brown. Using decorations such as stones and plants will add to your bathroom’s outdoor style and beauty.
The Reno Team at iBath is currently working with a customer on island near Church point who is building an outdoor bathroom. We will upload pictures once it is complete, but in the meantime check out the pictures below for some more ideas as to what you can do. If you are considering this idea we’d love to hear from you and help you with ideas and products to make your projects come true.

Expanding Your Bathroom

Even if you have a small sized bathroom, you have the power to expand it and make it appear much bigger than it actually is.
A small bathroom can feel cosy but it can also feel claustrophobic. One of the keys is to find the balance between making as much use of the space you have but at the same time not to overcrowd it.

Vanities
One of the main features of a bathroom is the vanity. This generally acts as the focal point of the room. iBath have a wide range of vanities, starting from 400mm.
If you still feel a 400mm vanity is too big, one of the tricks is to swap a floor standing vanity for a pedestal or wall hung basin and use a wall hung cabinet for storage space. With the extra floor space your bathroom will feel much more open and still look attractive.
The most compact but wide vanities on the market are 350mm off the wall and go up to 900mm wide. These usually have legs and a well chosen stone top will add some wow.

Accessories
Another idea is to minimise the number of accessories in a bathroom. Items such as hanging racks, and decorative accessories cut into the room and interrupts the visual flow as it ‘shrinks’ the room.
Double up on single towel rails and shelves to make the room tidier. Obviously you may need some of these for usefulness and iBath has just the solution with corner shelving and a range of single and thin accessories which don’t intrude the room.

Next Week
We’ll be looking at making space out of the bigger items such as mirrors, showers and flooring.

Easy Shower Head Cleaning Tip

Most of us might clean our shower/bathroom regularly, but what about the shower head? It's often a tricky one, especially with all the nooks and crannies it might have depending on the type of shower head you have.

A quick and easy way to clean the shower head, especially to remove any built up residue, is to tie a bag full of vinegar over the shower head. Use rubber bands or sandwich bag ties to secure the bag. Leave for a while, then remove and rinse off. Leave it on for as long as is necessary, but 24hrs will certainly do the trick. See here for a picture.

For a faster clean, add 1/2 a cup of baking powder to the vinegar and leave the bag over the shower head for about an hour or until the bubbling stops. Remove and rinse. The bubbles are carbon dioxide from the vinegar and baking powder reaction. Make sure it can get out of the bag.

Enjoy your sparkly clean shower head!
